PSYCHODUNGEON, a fantasy workplace action drama played with no dice and no masters, is coming to Kickstarter next month. The pre-launch page is live now and more followers there would really put my mind at ease: PSYCHODUNGEON (TTRPG) by Rat Wave Game House
Set in in a world of mobile phones and magic spells, mass transit and malevolent demons, the supernatural intermingled with the everyday, in the city of Glyndain. In Glyndain when peoples trauma hits a breaking point their troubles manifest physically as a psychodungeon full of monstrous nightmares. Plumbers are called in to clean out the dungeons and close them off. It’s difficult work. Dangerous. The kind that follows you home. Part adventurer, part handyman, part therapist. Still, it’s a living. You’ve got bills to pay and rent to make. It’s time to go down, down into the PSYCHODUNGEON.
PSYCHODUNGEON is a story game about mental health and feeling crushed by capitalism, inspired by dungeon crawling video games like Boyfriend Dungeon and Going Under. Within an individual delving job there are three asymmetric roles in the game; the Dungeon itself, the Client it has manifested from, and any number of Psychoplumbers who will delve down. The game uses a token-based system built on the Belonging outside Belonging framework, and suits 3-7 players. Players work together to shape the world, set the mood and tone, create trouble and look for solutions.
I’ve included a mockup of the gorgeous cover by Jess Kuczynski. The digital collage you' might have seen in other previews is by me. The game is fully written (barring stretch goal expansions) and has been sent off to the brilliant Alyssa Ridley for editing.
I need your help to make this game a reality. That’s a cliche, but it’s one for a reason. The initial goal covers production costs as well gives me at least a month paycheck (having learned from underpaying myself on Terminal and Ritual Magic, once everything was said and done). There’s some numbers in my head. A number where I feel safe with going on trying to make this my only job. A number where I feel safe putting some money back into making bigger games. There’s another number too. One where this project happens but I need to face the fact that this isn’t long run feasible and try and find someone else to be. Look obviously I want you to back the game because it looks good, it sounds interesting, and you think it’ll give you something you’ve not had before. But yeah, I need help. Here’s how you can help:
If you think you might back this game please please follow the pre-launch. I’m being a bit vague about the proper launch date. Mainly because I’d feel nervous launching without say at least 100 followers. If I have that number by mid-May it’ll launch then, but if it’s slow going I’ll push to late May.
Please share on social media! Look Twitter’s a shambling zombie and tbh I never had a huge audience there so people sharing the game if they’re excited about it always make a huge difference. Do it anywhere! Bluesky! Tumblr! Insta! Are you on Threads? Is anyone on Threads?
Tell people! Word of mouth makes a huge impact. Share in your discords, with your gaming groups, call a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while and say you got back in touch because they needed to know about PSYCHODUNGEON!
(I try and avoid spamming the mailing list though just as a warning as well as the monthly newsletter on the 12th May I’ll also do an email when the campaign properly launches!)
