Hey! I forgot this newsletter was coming up, between trying to do PSYCHODUNGEON hype and recovering from post-UKGE exhaustion (which coincided with me finally getting a fibro diagnosis and a higher painkiller prescription which I kinda would have appreciated like two weeks earlier). I’ve been busy. I think? I’ve felt busy, but maybe that’s just feeling tired. I have less work-in-progress things to share than some months, but maybe that’s because of how much time everything I will share has taken up.
PSYCHODUNGEON
PSYCHODUNGEON hit it’s initial funding goal and is really close to the first stretch goal. That goal involves adding four new Textures to build psychodungeons out of, including ones themed around medical trauma and dysphoria. The whole thing ends on Thursday the 20th.
I think we’re moving past the slowest point in the campaign, which is good, for my nerves at least. People tell me it seems like things are going well. It’s hard for me to see that, I presume because I’m too deep in it. I’d like it to finish strong. I think some of the stretch goals planned (a scenario dungeon to facilitate zero-prep play, longer form examples of play, fiction extracts and the elusive eight playbook) would be really cool to tackle.
Once the dust settles on the campaign I’ll begin the writing of the extra content. I’ll talk with Alyssa about the editing. Once that’s finished I’ll work on layout/art.
I keep floating the idea to people I know that I’m gonna quit trying to make RPGs my job after PSYCHODUNGEON, final funding dependant. I get the impression no one believes me. Which I understand, I doubt I’d believe me either, especially as I keep making plans like I’ll be here forever. I imagine I’ll make a show of looking for a “real job” and then just keep doing the same things I’ve always done until I literally can’t. This Kickstarter definitely feels like it’s fried my brain, and so I give it like a week after finishing before I start planning another one.
Anyway if you’d like to get a closer look at PSYCHODUNGEON as well as loads of blog posts and TikToks I’ve been doing I appeared on the Weekly Scroll near the start of the campaign. You can watch back on YouTube or listen back wherever you get your podcasts. I’ll also be appearing on Why We Roll on the 17th so keep your eyes peeled and you calendar clear.
This is Your Lifepath?????
So This is Your Lifepath continued with episodes with Lin Codega and Colin le Seur and then…it sputtered out. You might be wondering how that’s happened when I had all the episodes pre-recorded to avoid this exact situation. Basically one recording has proved very difficult to rangle and keeps crashing my editing software (the software now refuses to open full stop). To try and get back on track I’m going to try and skip to an easier episode to edit, though my software problem might still cause issues. If things go loosely to plan there’ll maybe be an episode up in the feed later today. Hopefully from there we get back to weekly episodes and I’ll figure out what will happen with the show’s problem child episode.
The Long Con
Every convention I go to I do leave worrying I’m the ttrpg equivalent of Jon Moxley’s line on CM Punk; fragile body, fragile mind, fragile ego. Still, exhaustion aside, I had a really good time at UKGE. If you’re someone who came by to chat or pick things up, thank you!
Also post-con I updated my webstore. I added some stock that you can now buy direct from me. Namely two Fourth Galaxy titles (Old Gods & Young Guns and Thirty Foes OR Once again, we are defeated) plus the Wild Duelist self-contained adventure Ballad of the Bastard and the Tinkerer.
There’s also some stock warnings on a few titles currently. I only have two copies of Transgender Deathmatch Legend in my possession and I have no intention of reprinting once they’re gone.
Additionally there’s low numbers for Follow Me in the Night: A Cursed Radio and The Infinite Dancefloor. I’ll likely reprint Follow Me in the Night (perhaps even before my next con) but I’m unsure on Infinite Dancefloor (basically at cons I only have so much stall space so some things dropping out of print can be useful to me buuuut I really do like Infinite Dancefloor).
I have a few more (at least) conventions I’ll be attending before the end of the year. First up I’ll be at Norwich Games Con on August 25th with Twelve Pins Press. It’s all too early to share details but there’s a fun event I’ll be involved with there too. After that I’ll be going to Edinburgh for Tabletop Scotland from the 6th to 8th of September. I’ll be splitting a table with Biscuit Fund Games. By that point I may even have physical PSYCHODUNGEON (though no promises) and possibily have jazzed up con offerings in other ways.
I’ll also be doing Dragonmeet again with Twelve Pins Press and friends but that’s so far off I don’t have much to say (honestly only mentioning it for completions sake).
