On Thursday I pressed the big launch button on my first ever Kickstarter. Terminal is a digtal pirate action game, written and designed by me, illustrated by Gormengeist and edited by Alyssa Ridley. The world is a lie, a simulation by the Robot Authority to keep you trapped and suffering, so you broke out. You’re a crew of swhasbuckling misfits who plug back into to try and take down the Terminal before it crashes.

Talking Terminal
Before the Kickstarter launched there was a lovely article about Terminal on Dicebreaker, written by Matt Jarvis.
Designer Kayla Dice’s rules-light game will see players making use of the Omen’s reputation with other figures in the world - both real and virtual - to explore islands across the sea, including the legendary pirate colony of Libertatia, the data rigs of the deep Hypnotic Sea and the Terminal’s seven domains simulating 21st-century Earth.
You can read the whole thing over here.
I was also delighted to guest on the Weekly Scroll and chat with Ryan about Terminal. We talked about the inspirations behind the game, why I keep coming back to themes of alienation, and more about how the game plays.
You can give it a watchback here or a listen over here.
Demo-lition
Just now I’ve released a readable demo for Terminal. It has some preview pages of the full book (specifically how the two core rolls in the game work as well as setting content) and an extended example of play. It tells the tale of the crew of The Mystic’s Regret and their struggle to rescue a captured comrade.
You can grab it over at Itch.
Spread the Word
This is really just a mini-drop in to announce the full launch of Terminal. I’ll be back with a fuller newsletter on the 12th (post Kayla’s Big GenCon Adventure).
We’re close to crossing the line to fund. Afterwards there’ll be some cool stretch goals (involved guest writers adding their touch to the world of Terminal) and the more we fund the more slick art we can afford. Funding has slowed a little since launch (this is just the arc of things and I understood that ahead of time) so spreading the word is greatly appreciated.
If you’re excited about Terminal please tell your friends. As the artist formerly known as Twitter is still dying just a reminder that you can find a directory of all my other hiding spots over at socials.ratwave.uk
A Rat Wave is probably what a shit of rat pirates would leave in the water
